The Thai baht is the official currency of Thailand. One baht is divided into 100 satangs. This currency is issued by the Bank of Thailand. In circulation are banknotes of 20, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 500, 1000, and 500,000 baht, and coins of 1, 2, 5, 10 baht, and 25, 50 satangs.

The Thai baht, like the pound, originated from one of the traditional units of mass. Initially, the value of the currency was expressed in terms of the weight of silver, but later it was denominated. The currency was officially introduced in 1897 when a decimalized system was introduced, and in 1910, both baht and satang coins were issued.
